The Early Bird
Class: (1-4 months pregnant)
Early pregnancy class covers nutrition, exercise, normal changes during
pregnancy, morning sickness, cravings, warning signs, premature labor,
things to avoid. Offered every third month on the third Thursday from
7-10pm.
Childbirth Education
Classes: (7 to 8 months pregnant)
Classes cover nutrition, exercise, anatomy, physiology, myths of pregnancy,
stages of labor, comfort measures for labor, a tour of the labor and
delivery unit, various breathing and relaxation techniques, medical
interventions in labor, C-sections, medications, induction of labor,
premature labor, pre-eclampsia, OB testing, labor rehearsal and birthing
videos. The last class of the series includes infant CPR and infant
care. Sign up early...if more than 10 couples sign up, another class
will be offered on a different night of the week. Wear comfortable clothing
and bring two pillows and a blanket. Delivering at The Family Place
Birth Center assures you a place in this class at no charge. We are
glad to provide this service to those delivering at other hospitals,
but request a fee of $50.00 for childbirth classes to help cover the
cost of materials. (Offered 4 times per month, beginning the first Tuesday
of each month from 7-9:30pm.
Refresher Class:
(7-9 months pregnant and have delivered a baby before)
This class offers a review of anatomy, stages of labor, comfort measures
of labor, tour of the labor and delivery unit, breathing and relaxation
techniques, medications available, induction of labor, OB testing and
a birthing video. (Offered every third month on the third Thursday of
the month from 7-10pm)
Sibling Class:
(anytime)
Short video on becoming a big brother or sister. Interactive play with
"life-like" doll. Children will see and learn about changes in the mother/child
relationship, what newborn babies are like, what they can do, how to
help care for and hold a new baby and special family activities to help
prepare for the birth. (Offered every third month. Please call for dates
and times)
Breast Feeding
Class: (6-9 months pregnant or already delivered and attend with
infant)
If you are thinking of breast feeding, haven't made up your mind and
need more information, or are already nursing, this class covers: basics
of breast feeding, anatomy, milk production, body positioning, positioning
of the infant, latch on, pumping and storing breast milk, diet during
nursing, drugs and medication effects, demonstration of various hand
pumps, Medela electric pump and discreet nursing techniques. Mom's with
nursing infants are welcome to attend. Join us to learn why BREAST IS
BEST!! (Offered monthly on the first Thursday of every month from 7-10
p.m.)
