History
Where We Have Been

Wise Regional Health System formally, Decatur Community Hospital, was established in 1973 by the City of Decatur as a Hospital Authority to enhance community health care delivery and to address the future health care requirements of a growing community. When the doors first opened for business, the hospital occupied little more than 34,000 square feet and was home to 50 patient beds and 2 operating rooms. There was significant forethought and effort by community leaders which led to the creation of this modern facility designed to meet virtually all health care needs, either on an emergency or routine basis. Decatur Community Hospital officially changed its name to Wise Regional Health System in April of 2001.
Where We Are
On February 1, 2007, Wise Regional became affiliated with, but not controlled by Baylor Health Care System. This affiliation brings resources of one of the most highly regarded health care systems in the world today. Through this association, residents will be able to access a full range of top quality health care services,” said Steve Summers, CEO, Wise Regional Health System. “Wise Regional and Baylor share compatible missions and values around integrity, servant-hood, quality, innovation and stewardship. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations has accredited it since 1982. In retaining this status, the hospital is acknowledged by the premium hospital accreditation agency in the nation as meeting or exceeding established health care standards. This further documents the desire and efforts of the hospital Board of Governors, Medical Staff, Hospital Administration, and Employees on staff to offer the finest health care available.

Where We Are Going
In addition we are currently recruiting new physicians to bring new health care services to you. All these new and exciting ventures will result in a health care facility and services that are most commonly found in large urban hospitals. This will allow our residents of Wise County to no longer be forced to drive long distances in order receive the quality health care they deserve.
