WHERE WE HAVE BEEN
Wise Regional Health System formally, Decatur Community Hospital, was established in 1973 by the City of Decatur as a Hospital Authority to enhance community healthcare delivery and to address the future healthcare requirements of a growing community. When the doors first opened for business, the hospital occupied little more than 34,000 square feet and was home to 50 patient beds and 2 operating rooms. There was significant forethought and effort by community leaders which led to the creation of this modern facility designed to meet virtually all healthcare needs, either on an emergency or routine basis. Decatur Community Hospital officially changed its name to Wise Regional Health System in April of 2001.

WHERE WE ARE
As of February 1, 2007, Wise Regional became affiliated with, but not controlled by Baylor Health Care System. This affiliation brings resources of one of the most highly regarded healthcare systems in the world today.  Through this association, residents will be able to access a full range of top quality health care services,” said Steve Summers, CEO, Wise Regional Health System. “Wise Regional and Baylor share compatible missions and values around integrity, servanthood, quality, innovation and stewardship.  We look forward to collaborating with Wise Regional to deliver quality patient care,” said Joel Allison, President and CEO, Baylor Health Care System.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations has accredited it since 1982. In retaining this status, the hospital is acknowledged by the premium hospital accreditation agency in the nation as meeting or exceeding established healthcare standards. This further documents the desire and efforts of the hospital Board of Governors, Medical Staff, Hospital Administration, and Employees on staff to offer the finest healthcare available.

Wise Regional Health System has established a progressive philosophy in the delivery of healthcare and continues to expand services as well as purchase state-of-the-art equipment to provide you with the latest in diagnostics, treatment, and support. Although we have expanded our services, we still deliver healthcare with the personal touch you have come to expect at Wise Regional Health System.

In 2004 construction began on the $54 million expansion for Wise Regional Health System and in August 2006 the facility opened now having all of the acute care services provided on the east campus. The Wise Regional Health System east campus now has a total of 99 acute medical and surgical beds, 10 operating room and a total of 176,000 square feet.

In November of 2006 the Wise Regional Health System west campus opened an additional 49 beds for long term care, rehabilitation, and inpatient adult and geriatric behavioral service. Today, Wise Regional Health System operates 148 acute care beds in two facilities.

WHERE WE ARE GOING
In addition we are currently recruiting new physicians to bring new health care services to you. All these new and exciting ventures will result in a health care facility and services that are most commonly found in large urban hospitals. This will allow our residents of Wise County to no longer be forced to drive long distances in order receive the quality healthcare they deserve.
