Emergency Services
At Wise Regional’s Emergency Department we’re here to help, should you or a loved one need emergency medical treatment. We’re committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care in an efficient and effective manner.
Our Emergency Department is a 27-bed, state designated Level IV Trauma Facility, staffed 24-hours a day with emergency medicine physicians and registered nurses specially trained in pediatric and adult acute care. The ER nursing staff is comprised of seasoned professionals with an average of 12 years nursing experience. All physician and RN members of the ER Team are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). In addition to pediatric, trauma, and cardiac care, the Emergency Department provides emergent obstetrical, gynecological, orthopedic and neurological (stroke) services for patients.
Patients are our Priority
When you’re sick and in need of emergency care, waiting is the last thing you want to do. We do our best to see patients as quickly as possible. The national ER wait time average is 4 hours and 3 minutes. At Wise Regional, it’s 2.2 hours, and is often much less, based on patient volumes.
On the Fast Track
As part of Wise Regional’s continued efforts to keep the emergency wait times as low as possible we have implemented a Fast Track Program. The Fast Track Program is a designated minor care area in the emergency department staffed with two nurses and one physician. This allows us to treat non-life threatening, minor emergencies and keep patient flow as efficient as possible.
Capabilities
Time matters most when dealing with cardiac patients. Wise Regional’s emergency department works with Wise County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in treating cardiac patients. When a heart attack patient is en route to Wise Regional, EMS personnel are able to transmit detailed vital statistics to our emergency department, allowing ER staff to treat the heart attack patient more quickly upon arrival. By the time the patient arrives at the hospital, the cardiologist will have already been notified and may be on site or at least on the way; the cardiac cath lab can be prepped and ready for any surgical procedure needed to open up the blocked vessels, thus minimizing heart damage.
Air Evac LifeTeam
While we can meet most medical and surgical trauma needs, a helipad is located just outside the Emergency Room should a patient require air-transfer to a major trauma care facility.
