Cancer Care and Treatment in Wise and Surrounding Counties

The North Texas Cancer Center at Wise Regional Health System provides our communities with the latest technologies in cancer treatment. Cancer patients who live in this area now have an opportunity to seek treatment close to home rather than traveling to a facility in the Metroplex.

The radiation oncology program offers intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), which enhances radiation treatment planning for the patient and allows delivery of high doses of radiation to a tumor while minimizing the amount of radiation to normal tissues. The medical oncology program has medical oncologists and oncology-trained staff who offer clinical trial drug programs and the latest chemotherapy agents using chemotherapy infusion chairs. The oncology groups of both programs play a major role in cancer care to include management of treatment plans, therapies, and evaluations of the patient’s progress.

We’ve worked very hard over the last few years to bring to our community the services and technology which are on par with the top cancer facilities in North Texas in order to continue to improve the service provided to fight the war against cancer for our friends and family in Wise County.

We have accomplished many great things, including:

• Enacted monthly tumor conferences attended by various physicians and hospital staff members to discuss specific cancer cases and allow for an open exchange of suggestions for treatment management.
• Acquired a stereotactic breast biopsy unit to provide the best available breast cancer diagnostic workups for those with concerns.
• Implemented the Truly Texas Room Service program to allow patients to order what they want when they want it. This is a great benefit for cancer patients who may not have an appetite when regular meals are served.

In addition, along with many other hospital service departments, we have participated in a number of community outreach events throughout the year, including Wise Regional’s annual community-wide health fair where we provided free oncology-specific health information and screenings, including free prostate screenings, breast cancer education and colorectal screenings.
